Going down? the dark knight, watchmen style - http://tinyurl.com/94x2v2 1 hr ago

so, you are probably wondering whats been going on here. First there was that ugly 1 post page with the google ads. then there was the default wordpress theme “k2,” and now this. this black and white, green and blue, three column mystery.

well, funny you should ask. no, this isn’t the much rumored fleur theme. instead, its yet another transition as I blindly fumble my way through php, and perfect the new design in my sandbox. the very creative might even discover its secret testing grounds.

so, while we are here in the land of Qwilm!, allow me to take you on a tour of the campus.

the first thing worth pointing out is the horizontal flexibility of this design. as long as your browser is wide enough to see the first small post column, you can see the whole site. as you extend it horizontally, the columns jump out towards the left. I like that touch a lot.

another is the static “pseudo-nav” on the top left. while you scroll up and down on any page, it’s relative position will never change on the screen (EDIT: this is not true if you are using Internet Explorer. stupid absolute positioning). available from top to bottom are “home - return to elihorne.com,” “email - email my gmail account,” and “rss - connect to my super fast and simple rss syndication.”

i’ve taken the liberty of completly deleting the “what category this was posted under element,” although the system is still in place. should an old permalink be directed to a category based address, it will still function. categories are now tags. they allow for more flexibility, and better labeling.

i’m sure there’s more here but i need to sleep. if you notice anything out of place or missing, give me a yell by clicking on the email link at the top left. until then cross your fingers for fleur.

  1. Ha. I totally know where you capered this layout from. :-)

  2. themes.wordpress.net is a great resource for the theme-frustrated. i may actually need your help to get fleur off the ground. I’ve got it all designed and my plugins sorted, but I’m having a lot of trouble with vertical-align and floats.

    we shall talk.
