While Smashing Magazine is a prolific resource that can be relied on for useful links and great lists, their posts tend to err on the side of “retardedly long.”
I’m subscribed via RSS, and I rarely make it past the halfway point before deciding that I simply don’t have the time to consume all the information.
9/10 out of ten, the posts have single themes, but they are epic lists of links to “50 Fantabulous Wallpapers for your 30″ monitor!!1!” (sic). Today I was pleasantly surprised: an in-depth tutorial on icon design.

Now, I’m not sure if these are the same steps that icon gurus like Jon Hicks takes to create his amazing artwork like the Silverback icon, and the famous Firefox logo, but this was eye-opening none the less.
If you have ever wondered about the various stages of the design process, this will probably be a great read for you. It even provides some helpful techniques like avoiding pixelation issues when taking it out of Illustrator and rasterizing the image.

the lighting on that pencil is atrocious
Why do I feel a “that’s what he/she said…” coming on?
