I heard some bad news from a close friend of mine today. So far, I’ve been lucky enough to have not seen any major illness or accident befall my family. Being the accident prone one, I tend to be the person that gives the bad news, and the family gets to react. Being on the other side has me feeling unprepared and helpless.
All I want to do is think of the right thing to say that will comfort her. As a defense reflex, I generally resort to humor as an attempt to lighten the mood, but is that a callous thing to do?
My thoughts and services* are going out to you, Lindsay. Even if you never read this blog, and I don’t find the right thing to say.
