@heidi make sure when you make these changes, that the MAMP server is not running, and once everything is set up, make sure you start the servers again before trying to call up the example.dev page. When I first began to mess with this, I kept making changes and forgetting to start/stop the servers. Launching the MAMP app or using the widget will show you whether it is running or not.

@heidi

without knowing more about your situation, I would suggest retracing your steps to make sure your changes were saved (especially the terminal stuff since you say you haven't used it much).

Also, try hand typing in the entries rather than copying and pasting on the off chance that it got garbled that way.

Is your MAMP install in applications? Make sure that path is appropriate for you, as it was based off -my- configuration.

Short of that, I don't have any ideas. Maybe someone else will chime in with a comment.

I'm completely new to running MAMP or any kind of server. I'm running 10.4 on a G4 with dual 500 processors. I've installed a fresh copy of MAMP and modified "mamp/conf/apache/httpd.conf" to say:

# Use name-based virtual hosting.
#
NameVirtualHost *

DocumentRoot "/Applications/MAMP/htdocs"
ServerName example.dev

# NameVirtualHost *

and went into terminal (for the first time in my life!) and did as stated so it now reads:

##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1 localhost example.dev
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost

but I can't get anything but a "file not found" page coming up. I have web sharing off and am at a complete loss. I really want this to work so I can start teaching myself zencart, but the manual is strictly windows and I'm lost.

Can you please make some suggestions where I may have gone wrong?

Thanks
