About

My name is Eli Horne, and I like to make stuff. Although my interests span from assembling elaborate imported bikes to making movies with my best friend Natasha, I eat, sleep, and breathe technology. I recently stopped freelancing so that I could work at Scripps Networks (home of the Food Network & HGTV) and learn the in’s and out’s of being a web developer.

I specialize in standards compliant websites, also commonly associated with the “XHTML/CSS” name tag. By combining lean code with carefully designed visuals, I make sites that look great and load quickly. I’m also pretty handy with Adobe’s software suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign to be specific). I handcode using Textmate, and I test “in-house” using MAMP.

Originally from New Orleans, I spent four years in Philly while I attended Temple University, and now call NYC home. I love traveling and have lived in Latin America for extended periods of time. I am passionate about biking and technology, although not necessarily in that combination.

APPLE: I’m a huge fan. Some might even go so far as to call me a “fanboy.” Between myself and Natasha, we’ve owned just about every piece of Apple equipment since the g4 powermac. I love to follow the rumor mills and postulate on the future of the brand. Current setup includes (but not limited to) a SR Core 2 Duo 15″ Macbook Pro, a 23″ Cinema Display, 16GB iPod Touch, Rev2 1st gen iPod Nano (for running), and the aluminum keyboard. Looking to acquire a 1TB Time Capsule, and possibly an Apple TV/Mac Mini depending on the cash flow.

BIKES: I ride a track bike. It has two wheels, 1 gear, no brakes. Previously it was a custom painted KHS Flite 100 that I sold to my friend Brian. Then I ran a Bianchi Pista covered in inner-tubes while I waited for my dream bike. I am now the proud owner of a Bob Jackson Vigorelli track frame with Sugino 75 cranks, Chris King HS, and assorted other goodies. It rides like a dream and burns chumps for kicks.

I am an avid amateur photographer (my flickr page) and have been lucky enough to have my pictures published a couple times. A photo I took at the news conference for Kids Rethinking New Orleans’ Schools was seen in Scholastic News, and the photo I took of my father (Jed Horne) for his book jacket appeared in The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Wall Street Journal, and The Times-Picayune.

Like many of my projects, this site is powered by Wordpress. The current theme is called “IKEA,” named so by my best friend Casey. My current host-du-jour is (MT).

The best way by far to contact me is via email. You can send email to “me” at the front of “@“, followed closely by “elihorne.com“. I am also sometimes on aim at “eli said“.
